How Mountains Are Formed
Mountains are formed when 2 plates of Continental crust crash into each other and one of them goes under the other plate. Such as the Himalayan mountains which was formed about 25 million years ago when the continent of India crashed into the continent of Asia but here is something amazing did you know that the Himalayan mountains are still growing. Another way they cam be formed is when magma pushes against the earths surface and dose not
break through the surface of the earth and it is blocked so it hardens and then it cools forming a granite like substance. One example is Mount. St Helens but this one is also a active volcano and the last eruption it had was in 1980, and scientists believe the eruption was caused by a minor earthquake which triggered the magma that was dry and inside the crater but below was a fresh lava deposit. Luckily it did not explode it only caused a giant landslide and left the city covered in ash.
